The DRC School Project and Community Centre is an effort to assist the needs of a growing informal settlement community in Swakopmund Namibia. The DRC School Project & Community Centre has created a centre for the community in order to provide services such as ; basic education , health information and a cultural forum. The centre serves the community as a whole while focusing mainly on issues facing mothers and children.

View of the DRC

The DRC is a rapidly growing resettlement area on the eastern outskirts of Swakopmund.  As a municipal area the DRC lacks many services such as supplementary education programmes, health education etc. The community is marginalized by its distance from the town centre.

Services to aide the community in its transition from a rural to an urban area are desperately needed.

The DRC School Project provides an educational centre for the DRC community.    This includes a supplementary educational programme five days a week for 25-40 children.    Health programmes are also be provided at the centre, including an HIV/AIDS education and awareness programme.    The centre also serves the community as a gathering place where community needs can be addressed.

The project also aims to work in close co-operation with other non-profit organizations as well as the Government Ministries.

DRC School Project Centre

The structure that currently serves as the DRC School Project Centre was donated by Namib Film.   The structure is 126mē and consists of three rooms.   The centre will also house a playground and a craft centre for community members.   The centre is on the main road in the Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC) and therefore easily accessible to all members of the community.

The centre is available to everyone.   If you have a programme that you would like to run at the centre please feel free to contact us at the telephone number
